Frequently Asked Questions
What is Carbon Crimes?
Carbon Crimes is a platform that tracks and exposes excessive carbon emissions caused by celebrities and the rich. It matches flight data to determine their carbon footprint.
Who are the celebrities being tracked?
The website tracks a variety of celebrities from different industries such as actors, musicians, influencers, sports figures, and more. Their goal is to raise awareness about overall carbon emissions from frequent flying among these influential figures.
How can celebrities be encouraged to reduce their carbon footprints?
To be honest - can ANYBODY encourage them to reduce their carbon footprint? We don't know. But this site collates publicly available data, and we aim to raise awareness and encourage celebrities to make more sustainable choices. Like not threatening the future of every person on earth.
What about these poor rich people's privacy?
We're not interested in invading anybody's privacy - but this flight data is publicly available, and it's an easy way to call attention to their carbon crimes. We don't show flights that are in the last couple of days (you can't use this info to go stalk them at an airport). But honestly, we're not giving any information most of these people aren't already giving out on their instagrams.
Ooh, I have an idea of a person you should add.
That's not a question. But cool! We definitely want to grow this list. Send us your recommendation at info@carboncrimes.com
OK sure, but who are YOU?
This was made by Felix & Matt, part of Studio Kirkland - our little family brand of creative projects. We care about having a livable climate in the future and we think you should too.
How do I follow the progress we're making here?
We've got an email newsletter you can join! You can sign up here.
How do you calculate carbon emissions?
We use a simple formula to calculate the carbon output. It takes into consideration the average fuel consumption of the specific type of aircraft the criminal owns, the distance flown, and then converts this into CO2 equivalents. It's important to note that these calculations are estimates based on available public data; but we're as accurate as we can be. Even if we're off by a bit, these criminals are still responsible for thousands of times as much carbon as you or I.
How can I be sure my donations are actually offsetting carbon?
We partner with reputable carbon offset organizations. When you make a donation, it goes to these partners who then invest the funds in sustainable projects that reduce CO2 emissions. See our current partner list below for details on how their projects help fight climate change.
Will you really follow through on these offsets?
Absolutely. We already offset emissions for our family and businesses, and have been climate neutral since 2021. Now we can extend the fight to cover these reckless carbon crimes. But really it's these rich weirdos that we want to convince; they're the ones committing carbon crimes.
Where do the carbon offets go to?
We convert your donations into offsets from the most well-regarded, innovative climate partners who are doing REAL work fighting climate change. Today this includes:
- TerraPass, which fights deforestation in the Amazon rainforest, supports reforestation in the Yucatan peninsula, and preventing the release of HFCs in old refrigeration equipment.
- Charm Industrial, which uses plants to capture CO₂ from the atmosphere and injects it underground where it's safely stored.
- Make Sunsets, which uses high-altitude stratospheric injection to make the atmosphere more reflective - which cools the earth and buys us more time to convert to clean energy solutions.
